WHAT DOES BAHRAIN REQUIRE FROM YOUR PET?

Bahrain requires all pets to be at least three months old and fully vaccinated, with the vaccinations administered no less than 30 days and no more than one year prior to entry. Dogs must be vaccinated against Rabies and DHPPIL (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, and Leptospirosis), while cats require Rabies and Tri-cat vaccines (Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia). Pets coming from countries not considered “Rabies Clear” must undergo a Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT) to ensure an antibody level of 0.5 IU/ml or higher.

PET MICROCHIP

To comply with Bahrain’s entry requirements for pets, it is essential that your pet is microchipped with a pet microchip that follows ISO standards, particularly ISO 11784/11785. This chip must contain a non-encrypted, 15-digit code. If your pet’s microchip does not meet the mentioned criteria, you could either carry a microchip scanner of your own or purchase one to comply with the guidelines.

PERMITS & HEALTH CERTIFICATE

To bring pets into Bahrain, an Import Permit is mandatory and must be obtained prior to travel. The permit, valid for 30 days, requires detailed information about the pet, including its name, species, breed, age, sex, color, and microchip or tattoo number (if applicable). The application must include scanned copies of vaccination records and, if necessary, Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT) certification. Additionally, a Health Certificate issued by a government-approved veterinarian within 10 days of travel is required. This certificate must be authenticated by an official government authority with a valid stamp and signature. Internal and external Parasite Treatments (including deworming, tick, and flea control) must be administered within 24-120 hours before departure. Both the import permit and health certificate are essential for customs clearance, and all original documents must accompany the pet upon arrival. Pets must arrive as manifested cargo, and incomplete documentation may result in quarantine or re-exportation at the owner’s expense.
